Structural Integration (SI) is a method of improving the body’s relationship with gravity by direct manipulation of collagen fibre or ‘fascia‘, it is a method developed by Dr Ida P Rolf in the USA in the latter half of the 20th Century and is now practised all over the world either as SI or ‘Rolfing’.
In it’s most common form, SI is a series of ten sessions which progress towards the ultimate goal of standing the body in alignment in gravity. The results of this are;
- dramatically increased flexibility.
- increased energy
- reduced or eliminated chronic pain
- effortless ‘good posture’.
SI is not intended as treatment of a specific symptom or pain, the intention of the practitioner in a series of SI is to realign the body with the field of gravity by taking a person through ten systematically designed progressive goals.
As the sessions continue a feeling of well-being and self-confidence will develop as your body returns to its dynamic upright position. Old postural habits and positions will become easier to recognise and release, daily tasks and athletic performance are often enhanced as energy locked up in maintaining support is freed.
The effects are long lasting and can continue to progress for up to a year after the series is finished.
For people who wish to take the experience further the basic ten series can be built on by regular ‘mini series’ of 3 sessions designed to help the person to progress.
At Align Body Clinic, our SI treatments are undertaken by Jay Ruddock who is a member of the Guild for Structural Integration.
If you would like to understand more about SI and whether it would work for you, either book a £19 new patient assessment, or email Jay with your questions.
