I qualified as a Clinical Psychologist in 2004 and have worked in psychological therapies services for the past 14 years. I have worked as a Consultant Clinical Psychologist in the NHS since 2012 as Lead Clinician for an Improving Access to Psychological Therapies service in West London. I specialise in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, completing my postgraduate diploma in CBT in 2009. I was the CBT module leader on the Masters in Mental Health studies for 3 years from 2008-2011. I have been fully accredited with the British Association of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP) since 2011.
I have recently started to work privately, having re-located the South-West in early 2019.
Therapeutic approach
The two main approaches I use in my clinical practices are CBT and EMDR. Although different therapeutic approaches are taught on the Clinical Psychology Doctorate course, CBT is the approach that appealed to me most and was the one that I chose to specialise in. The emphasis of CBT is on the here-and-now and whilst the past will be discussed during therapy, this will be to help understand how this links to current thoughts and beliefs rather than being the focus of therapy itself.
I completed EMDR training with EMDR Works in 2014 and have been mainly using this model when working with PTSD cases since that time. Where clients have bought into this approach, I have found that it can get really effective results in a shorter time-frame than CBT and have tended to use it particularly in my work with people who have experienced childhood trauma.
I have also attended training in Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and integrate ideas and methods from those therapies into my clinical work where appropriate.
